Behind the Blog: the Four Pillars of a Laurel

Hey all! Some of you have asked why I write so many detailed posts about the SCA and all things artsy. The answer is pretty simple! As I see it, a Laurel in the SCA, has four key responsibilities that guide my involvement:

Championing the Arts and Sciences – I love being a proponent of the creative and scholarly pursuits that make the SCA so special.

Teaching through arts and sciences judging.

Recognizing Excellence – It’s important to identify and encourage those who are doing exceptional work, so that our Monarchs can honor them if they choose.

Their Majesties giving an award for excellence.

Safeguarding Our Society – Keeping an eye on how things unfold in the SCA is part of ensuring our community thrives.

Educating and Enlightening – I enjoy sharing knowledge about pre-17th-century societies and the amazing reenactment world we’ve built in the SCA, both with members and those curious about what we do.

Conversing with the public about the SCA.

Since I don’t travel as much as I used to, this blog has become my way of fulfilling these goals. My hope is that it’s fun, friendly, and factual for you, just as it is for me. While I may not be able to tackle my ever-growing pile of laundry, I’m glad I can still connect with all of you in this way!
