Saturday was Barony's Arts and Sciences Championship Revel. A mini event to drive away the winter blues and find the next Lonely Tower cardinal crafter. Here's the highlights.
You won’t believe this. The Revel was rained out again. It was suppose to happen in May to choose the next Cut and Thrust Champion. But it rained then. A rain date had been pre-selected for June 23rd. But that was rained out too. So Their Excellencies Augustin and Aleit turned the rain-date alternate site happening into a birthday party. […]
I hadn’t planned to attend the Renaissance Faire this year. I’d planned to visit my brother in Minneapolis for his birthday. That didn’t happen for several reasons. But it meant I was able to help out with Lonely Tower‘s demo at the Renaissance Faire of Nebraska. I’m not going to give a lengthy tale about it. I’ll just share with you a few of the pictures I took. You can tell by the pictures how much fun a RenFaire is. If you haven’t attended one you should. So on to the pictures. So there are two parts to my pictures. First are pictures of Lonely Tower folk enjoying the day and telling RenFaire guests the fun we have all year long recreating things from before 1600. Of course we show off our arts and crafts. And visit with our friends and members from our neighboring Barony of Mag Mor, Lincoln, NE. This RenFaire is to awesome to keep to ourselves. And of course their are martial arts demonstrations. And some things like a Russian caring for a guest’s Chihuahua. You just never know what you’ll find. But there’s more to this wonderful Nebraska RenFaire than what we in the SCA do for it. So the following pictures are a few I took as I walked through out the faire. As I told you at first I hadn’t planned to attend this fascinating whimsical event. I wish I’d had more time […]
Potluck delight Each winter the Lonely Tower holds a cold weather indoor revel to find the Baronial Arts and Science’s Champion. To shake our revels up a bit the HL Cristina la Ambeler – organizer and current A&S Champion – gave it an Alice In Wonderland theme too. She asked you to reflect the theme through your period attire or potluck food. Competitions are the […]
This happened Friday evening. My friends and I dressed in “garb” and met at Medieval Putt in Elkhorn to bobble our way through 18 holes. I’m not great at this. In fact, I’m ghastly. Then throw in riding a mini zip line all I could do was have fun. And I did. So much I missed the best pictures swinging a […]

Arts and Sciences in the Kingdom of Calontir are a big deal. Those hand-done crafts create our medieval ambiance. So you’ll often find us working on a handmade project, even at events. Events in the Kingdom and in our Barony encourage your participation in competitions. Last Sunday the Barony of the Lonely Tower held their annual Arts and Sciences Championship Revel. This […]
M. Rolf And Other Scribes You probably noticed Lonely Tower has a new Baron and Baroness, Augustin le Blinde and Aleit de la Thomme. They took the reins at our 2018 12th Night event. Their Excellencies have inspiring ideas for us including giving original scrolls for awards they present at court. That means Lonely Tower scribes will have opportunities to use the skills […]
The Barony of the Lonely Tower held their quarterly revel and championship tournament last Sunday. It was the perfect weather, sunny with a slight breeze. As L. Aleit says, “An excuse to spend a beautiful day in the park with friends.” The weather was perfect for taking pictures, plus the organizers outdid themselves. They put up the Baronial sunshade, the Lonely Tower banners […]
My SCA Selfie The Barony of the Lonely Tower held their Arts and Sciences Championship Revel last Sunday. My favorite local event, designed to select the person who represents those activities to the Kingdom for the coming year. It was held in the Hillcrest Mable Rose adult daycare facility, unused by them on Sundays. A free site for us, because […]
A few pictures I took today. The Barony of the Lonely Tower‘s Armored Combat Revel. .
Way back in February 1996, I was welcomed into the Barony’s Order of the Rose Window. Then I was known as Siobhan le Blake. The Rose Window is an honor for those showing talent in the arts and sciences. That’s Baron Alexandr giving it to me, with Roise at his side. The back row left to right, if I remember the names, […]
I’m so excited. We have more eager scribes attending our classes. We had three come from the Mag Mor, Lincoln group. This time, I scheduled space at my local library. Even with hauling supplies, I felt better about the space we used. Most people don’t like their picture taken, but I was able to catch M. Rolf (also from Lonely Tower) […]
Lining Up, Waiting Our Turn In the early 1990s, the Barony of the Lonely Tower put on a demonstration at the Oakview Mall that included a historical fashion show. “A Walk Through History”. Here are scans of the pictures I took, (except the one I’m in. I didn’t take it.) The clothing eras progress from oldest to more current about 1000 […]
Baroness Lady Milada von Felsenhof Until 2010 this caring woman, Lady Milada von Felsenhof, was my SCA role model. Her memory still is. I met her in 1991 at a Lonely Tower summer revel. Besides her yummy pie for the pot-luck lunch, she brought bubbles for the children. She didn’t just bring them, she played with the children with them. I […]
This picture was taken about 1990 and shows the creative computer use to track the fighting list results.
Students at May’s Lonely Tower scribal gathering suggested we have regular calligraphy and illumination classes. This coming July 24th I will host the first one. While reservations are not needed responding to the event notice on Facebook would help planning. I can easily seat 12 without adding extra tables. Beyond that I’ll have to add tables. This is not a gathering […]
Early in June the Barony of the Lonely Tower held their quarterly potluck revel and champion tournament. This one was to select the Barony’s Cut and Thrust Champion. The weather was perfect and there was a breezy populace turnout. The Cut and Thrust Champion Tournament was the day’s feature, as my pictures show. It had three rapier fighters out doing each […]
May 8th Lonely held an afternoon of scribal classes. Mistress Aiden came from out of town to present Lord Kahlil his auction winnings, a scribal start up kit. It included books, paints, pens, tools, and other materials. A real haul. M. Aiden and Ld. Kahlil Kahlil spear-headed the scribal afternoon which included the introduction to Kahlil’s starter kit, how to […]
