Embracing Balance: A Weekend of Tai Chi and Family Joy

This past weekend was one for the memory books — filled with movement, learning, and love.

On Saturday, November 8th, I joined a group of dedicated students and instructors . We participated in intense training by Sifu Suman Barkhas on teaching Tai Chi using the 8-Form routine. The 8-Form is often called the “gateway” routine by many. It is simple enough for beginners, yet profound enough to reveal the essence of Tai Chi.

It was a full day of intense movement and learning about guiding others through this graceful sequence of steps. We focused mainly on movement, posture, and breathing. We also explored how to connect each move smoothly with another. By the end of the day, my body was tired, tired and more tired.

Meet my daughter.

As expected Sunday came next. A day overflowing with joy as my daughter married Kyle. Their celebration was beautiful and heartfelt as it was conducted by one of Kyle’s best friends.

The wedding took place at the Café Postale located inside what used to be a postal rail hub. This gives it a great “old building with stories” ambience. It’s cozy, stylish and a little quirky. On any other day it would be a fun place to sip coffee and people-watch.

Seeing Denise start this new life, gave the entire weekend a theme of renewal. A renewal in both body and spirit.

Now, I’m reflecting on how perfectly exhausted I am and how those two experiences fit together. They both display balance, grace, and a new beginning. These are true whether on the practice floor or a wedding venue.
