Beneficial Exercises: Tai Chi and Qigong for Balance

When I saw today’s WordPress prompt , “What Is My Favorite Form of Exercise?”, I didn’t have to think twice. Tai Chi and Qigong are not only my favorite forms of exercise. They are also my favorite ways to start—or sometimes end—my day.

What makes them special to me is the combination of gentle movement, mindfulness, and breathwork. Every slow turn of the wrist helps me feel grounded. Every mindful shift of weight makes me balanced. Every calm inhale contributes to my calmness. It’s movement that doesn’t rush me—it restores me.

Tai Chi for Balance, in particular, has taught me to move with intention. It shows me how to feel the connection between my feet and the earth. I have learned to trust that strength doesn’t always mean speed or force. Qigong, its older cousin, deepens that sense of internal flow. It helps me focus and release tension. I feel energy move through my body like a quiet stream.

The beauty of both practices is that they meet you where you are. You can begin with a single movement. You can start with a single breath. You will still receive real benefits—better balance, calmer thoughts, and a surprising amount of joy.

In a world that often pushes us to go faster, Tai Chi and Qigong remind me to slow down. They help me to notice the small details. I notice the way my shoulders relax. I feel the air move. I see how the morning light catches a leaf.

They are, in every sense, moving meditations—and I can’t imagine a better form of exercise.
