Lavender Lemonade: A Lilies War Delight

“Lavender is especially good to comfort the braine.”  — John Gerard, Herball, 1597

One of the unexpected delights at this year’s Lilies War came from a merchant’s table. It was not something I bought. Instead, it was something I drank! They were offering free samples of the most refreshing summer drink: Lavender Lemonade. I’d never tasted anything quite like it. Light, floral, just the right amount of tart. It would be perfect for serving at a Baronial revel or event.

Better yet, the kind man behind the table gladly shared the recipe. I was smitten enough to track down the exact ingredients online. When I got home, I bought the culinary lavender and a good-quality lemonade mix to make it.

Now that I have the lavender, I’ll definitely make a pitcher (or three) for any future Baronial revels and events. It’s a great way to spend any time chatting. It’s also perfect for wandering the merchant rows.

Just a short note: this drink might not pass the period test. If you’re aiming for high-persona authenticity at an event, it may not be suitable for your specific time. Be sure to check with your event’s food guidelines or persona requirements.
