Almost an Accident: A Reflexive Reaction

I went to the mall today for my usual walk. On the way there, I was stopped at a light, first in line to turn left. I was daydreaming and relaxed. And then—out of nowhere—it happened.

A Rubicon from the opposite direction came flying into a sharp left turn right in front of me. It was too fast and too tight. The car skidded, ran up onto the median, and stopped… maybe a foot in front of my car.

Just like that.

Nothing hit. No crunch. No glass. No aftermath.

My walk still happened. I went to the mall. I did my steps and
kept to my routine. I was grateful for the driver who saved our bacon.

I did feel a strange silence after something that almost happened. So I did the only thing that made sense in the moment. I gave the driver a thumbs-up for saving our bacon, even if he’d caused it, too.

You could say, “Fortune favors not only the bold, but the still-standing.”
