Embrace Your Passion: Why Every Contribution Matters
“What’s something you believe everyone should know.”~WordPress
This WordPress prompt from a few days ago reminded me that we are all worthy of a fulfilling life. It’s worth is not because of what we create, achieve, or prove. In my opinion it’s simply because we exist.
In the modern world, it’s easy to measure our worth by outward signs. We often look at awards, titles, productivity, or perfection in our craft. Even within the Society for Creative Anachronism, this holds true.
The truth runs deeper. You might be a new artisan stitching your first seam. Or a seasoned fighter teaching a novice. Or perhaps a quiet soul who helps set up tents and share laughter at our Gathering. Your presence matters and your passion enriches the Dream.
Fulfillment doesn’t wait at the end of a long road lined with accomplishments. It’s found in the act of learning, creating, and connecting with others. It’s in the moments when we lose ourselves in painting a scroll. Or we find joy teaching embroidery or weaving. Or we enjoy talking with a friend. We discuss how much we still have to learn after 35 years in the SCA.
In the medieval workshops I so often write about, apprentices didn’t measure worth by titles or wealth. Their satisfaction came from progress. They slowly mastered tools and shared happening. They took pride in making something both useful and beautiful. We can find the same joy today, in our own small acts of creation and kindness.
If you’ve ever doubted your place, remember this. The Society thrives because of you. You might feel your contributions weren’t grand enough. But they are essential.
