New Friends, Hawaiian Treats, and SCA Adventures

Hey everyone!

Guess what? I just returned from the most amazing weekend at Calontir’s Clothiers event! It was everything I hoped for and more, with a cherry on top: making two incredible new friends.

So here’s the scoop: I was super excited to meet HL Nest Funnyn. Nest hails from the sunny climes of Southern Missouri, while I’m a proud resident of Omaha, NE. We figured the Independence, MO SCA Clothiers event would be the perfect middle ground for our meetup.

We ended up staying at the same motel, and let me tell you, it was like a mini slumber party in Nest’s room! Nest brought along her friend Patti, and I was joined by my fabulous Apprentice HL Astrid.

Our evening was a delightful mix of book exchanges (because, of course, we had to bring books!) and chit-chat with Patti and Astrid. The four of us, each with our unique connections to the SCA, made for some pretty animated conversations. I’m a Laurel, Nest, and Astrid are part of the Order of the Calon Lily, and Patti… well, Patti’s so fresh to the SCA that she’s still working on her SCA name! We gabbed about everything from newbie SCA tips, to basket making and the classes we were excited to take the next day.

And oh, the food! We ventured out to this quirky little fast-food place called Hawaiian Bros. Talk about a taste of the tropics! They serve “island-inspired” dishes and ice cream, and get this – they don’t have the usual fries. Instead, they serve rice as their side dish. Absolutely delicious. We all agreed the entrees were top-notch.

After our late-night dinner adventure, we said our goodnights, each buzzing with excitement for the Clothiers event the next day. It was the perfect blend of fun and friendship before a day packed with learning and teaching.

My only regret? I totally forgot to snap a photo of our fantastic foursome. Next time, for sure!

Stay tuned for more of my SCA adventures, and remember, it’s the friends we meet along the way that make these events truly unforgettable!
