My Basket Weaving Adventure: From Intimidation to Excitement
Hey there, fellow craft adventurers!
I’ve got something exciting to share. I’ve signed up for a basket weaving class, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. On January 20th, I’ll be diving headfirst into the world of basketry at Omaha’s Lauritzen Gardens for a class called “Basket Weaving: Bolt.” I’m still a total newbie at this basketry thing, so I have very mixed feelings about this class. Is it possible to feel scared and bubbley inside at the same time?

First things first, the nerves. I know it’s normal to feel a bit jittery when you’re about to try something new. Basket weaving may be an old craft, but I’m as green as they come. The idea of creating a beautiful basket from scratch seems both exhilarating and intimidating. But hey, every master started as a beginner, right? Part of my joy comes from experiencing something totally new again as an SCA Laurel and Senior Citizen. The “Basket Weaving: Bolt” class promises to be super beginner-friendly, so I should be in good hands.
What really caught my eye about this class is the “mold” technique, which adds a cool structure to our baskets. This means I won’t be completely lost and can focus on creating with the weaving pattern and materials. I know experienced basket-makers who haven’t worked using a mold. It’s pretty awesome for a beginner like me!
To get ready for the big day, there won’t be much for me to prepare ahead of time. All the materials and supplies will be provided, so I just have to bring my e-mailed ticket and me. I can’t wait to dive into this hands-on experience. And, if I have any questions or uncertainties, I can reach out to Lauritzen Gardens or the class organizer Jeannie Sisson of Woven Keepsakes. After all, we’re sort of all in this together!
The closer I get to January 20th, the more my excited I keep getting. I’m picturing the afternoon filled with creativity, laughter, and the thrill of learning something new. And the best part? I’ll be surrounded by basket weaving enthusiasts who share my curiosity. It’s like finding a new tribe!
So here’s the deal – I’m determined to embrace this adventure. I’m going to jump into the class with an open mind, ready to conquer any challenges that come my way. Who knows where this will take me. But I’m excited to find out.
With that date circled on my calendar, I’m counting down the days until I can weave my own path in basketry. Yeah, I might be a newbie now, but I’m eager to see how far I can go and what beautiful baskets I can create. Cheers to new beginnings in my old age and the magic of crafting with my own two hands!
