Lining Up, Waiting Our Turn In the early 1990s, the Barony of the Lonely Tower put on a demonstration at the Oakview Mall that included a historical fashion show. “A Walk Through History”. Here are scans of the pictures I took, (except the one I’m in. I didn’t take it.) The clothing eras progress from oldest to more current about 1000 […]
In 2000 I entered Calontir‘s Arts and Sciences Championship Competiton with the three items in this photo. (Yes, they were all mine. Back then I was known in the SCA as “Siobhan le Blake”.) The easiest single entry to see is the colorful six item comparative illuminated manuscript styles’ study. Lower in the photo, in the center, is an oversized diamond-point […]
Master William Blackfox (aka Mark Wallace), author and illustrator of the cartoon Warthaven, was, talented in many fields, including playing the bagpipes. He viewed everything in life as fun and generously gave the SCA his time and talents, until his untimely death in 1997. For those of you who never had the pleasure of knowing William Blackfox, Master Chidiock’s poem describes him […]
Baroness Lady Milada von Felsenhof Until 2010 this caring woman, Lady Milada von Felsenhof, was my SCA role model. Her memory still is. I met her in 1991 at a Lonely Tower summer revel. Besides her yummy pie for the pot-luck lunch, she brought bubbles for the children. She didn’t just bring them, she played with the children with them. I […]
Don’t want to think of this, even though I know the SCA is 50 years old now. Taken September 10, 2010 as I was welcomed to the Order of the Laurel. Two people prominent in this photo are now gone. Mistress Luciana della Ridolphi and Duke Ostwald Konrad von Riestoten. She received one of the earliest Laurels in Calontir, a well […]
This picture was taken about 1990 and shows the creative computer use to track the fighting list results.
In 1990 I sewed some boring brown homespun cotton into my first SCA garb. Using a pattern with princess seams, I added buttons up the sleeves and knotwork detail. My first attempt. Today, my camping garb isn’t much better even though I don’t use a pattern to make it.
For a few years, about 2008 and 2009, I enjoyed decorating glassware. The glassworkers in Calontir were making baskets-full of beads at that time. I wanted to decorate glassware. Making glass, like Calontir’s Glassworkers Guild now do, is a true labor of love. It takes skill, heat, and unique materials. I researched engraved and painted […]

Artisan of the Steppes is a body of work competition that’s been held in the SCA Kingdom of Ansteorra for over 28 years. Work diversity is encouraged including endeavors that didn’t click with the maker. All items entered have documentation on their history and creation. Mosaic Entries I took these pictures August 6, 2000, in the Dallas/Fortworth area. I went […]
These were taken at Lonely Tower’s Twelfth Night event, January, 2006. The event was held at Omaha’s Masonic Center which has been outside our budget recently.
A few Lonely Tower revel pictures I took August, 2005. Sadly, we are missing several people in these photos. The Baronial Court of TE Faolin and Tatjana
Wonderful demo! The Barony of the Lonely Tower‘s huge display at the 2005 Nuke Con. Pictures of SCA stuff and participants from 2005. Those were the days, my friend …
I love the Manesse Codex illuminations! The heraldry and style are so inspiring. I wanted to have these painted so much, they are the reason I learned illumination in the first place. This “Throwback Thursday” I’m sharing my scroll illumination inspired by it. (See the original page by clicking here.) My Illumination From Mathieu Chartrain’s 2004 Capstone The Complete Scroll
Looking for class handout files on old DVD discs… I stumbled upon more SCA photos! It’s been ten years plus since the Barony of the Lonely Tower held this Spring Fling Event. It was so much fun! Camping, cabins, catapults, classes, cooking and court. Have a look. Do you recognize anyone? Is that you? Maybe it’s what’s their name? Are they […]
Court of TE Aleksandr and Roise, Barony of the Lonely Tower
Me and someone’s scooter disguised as a “horse”. . This goes back 21 years to Pennsic War XXIII. My 13-year-old daughter and I had more fun than a passel of puppies! We’d been in the SCA about 4 years. Just enough time to acquire: enough period-style camp clothing enough camp gear tent camping experience SCA background information resources to care for […]
Here’s a picture from 2008 for Throwback Thursday. It’s an award I did with calligraphy and illlumination for an SCA friend, Luciana. (You know, that’s the Society for Creative Anachronism). Luci received a Laurel for all the amazing Renaissance and medieval clothing she researched and made. The whole story is…Luciana received the actual award many years earlier, but not the […]
